Paths

When we are born, there is a path laid before us. While we are children, our parents guide us down our path. And then there comes a time when our parents my let go of our hands and let us choose. There are many forks in our path. Go this way, go that. We get to choose.
All through our lives we have choices. Sometimes we make good choices, sometimes we don't. We learn from both the good and the bad.
We all are here for a reason. We are all here for a purpose. We each have a calling. We can't always see clearly what those things are. But we never should stop searching. Never stop learning. Never stop trying new things.
Follow your path.
Make your decisions based on your beliefs and your teachings.
Make your decisions based on what you know is right.
It is that simple. It is that complicated.

Living

I am watching a show on the Travel Channel. The people living in the Amazon. The Zoe. And it is almost unreal. To see how these people live like you might see in a movie about Mayans. More primitive than you can even imagine. The rainforest is so hot and humid they don't bother with any clothes at all. They hunt for their food each day. They are nomadic. They eat what they can find. The only outside things they use are fishing line and hooks, for when they can't find wild pig or monkey.
When you watch something like this, it is hard to believe that they are SO happy with what they have. I can only imagine how frightened they would be if ever they were to go to some place like New York City. And to think that people still live this way in 2009, well, it certainly can blow your mind. We think the Amish are behind the times. They are modern compared to the Zoe of the Amazon rainforest.
Simple life is so much more well.........simple than the hustle bustle of life in "modern" communities.
These people know how to take care of themselves with potions and flora and fauna that are all natural. I laugh. When I pass the "organic" sections of the grocery stores. Shouldn't everything be organic? A half gallon of "organic" milk.....$5.99.
The Zoe peoples have organic everything.
It just makes me wonder who is the happier people.

Sometimes I wonder:

I do sometimes wonder how many people know what I mean when I say things:

The grassy knoll

Cuban missle crisis

The Pueblo incident

Khe Sahn

Max Yager

The Fish Cheer

Kent State

Eight Track

I can't think of any more right now, but I wonder how many people know what I am talking about without looking it up.

Jury duty over

And justice prevailed. The defendent did plead guilty and we were dismissed. You could see the defense attorney could see what way the balances of justice were going. And now the defendent will serve one life sentence with maybe a possibility of parole instead of two life sentences and a few more years. With no parole. So he was "smart" to make a deal. But the sadness is that the whole thing, which could have been avoided if the defendent had just driven away instead of hitting two people. How many lives are affected by his actions that night. His victims lives changed forever with the injuries they suffered and his own family has devastated. Just very sad.
We were all sorry that we didn't get to deliberate. But who knows, we could get called again this month.

Juror

I was summoned for jury duty this month. Today was my first day. I am on a jury. I have never done this before and only one other juror on our jury has. So we are all giggly and silly when we get into the jury room. But I know when we are given the case, we will be serious. It was just first day jitters.

I can't believe that in 58 years I never was summoned. Summoned....what a weird word. So LEGAL.

Interesting so far.

Innocent until proven guilty. Sounds easy but it really is very hard to think that way. Your mind wants to go the opposite. The defense does not have to even say anything.
The defendent is to remain innocent in your head until you hear something that the prosecutor says to prove to you they aren't. I never really gave it too much thought until today. When I watch COPS, I always think "heck ya, he's guilty" because I saw what happened. And as a rule, I would have a tendency to want to believe a police officer if they were in court and said it was so. But you can't. You have to listen to everything and THEN decide if the prosecutor PROVED that he is guilty beyond that reasonable doubt.

Wow.
